S-2: Top 10 scorers and ties from the 2024 U.S. Women's Open

Shibuno’s breakthrough moment came in the 2019 Women’s British Open, her major-championship debut. Traveling for the first time outside her native Japan, Shibuno held off American Lizette Salas by one stroke at Woburn Golf Club. Shibuno, nicknamed the "Smiling Assassin," became the second female player from Japan to win a major, following Hisako Higuchi in the 1977 LPGA Championship (now KPMG Women's PGA Championship), and the first to win her major debut since Hyo-Joo Kim in the 2014 Evian Championship. All six of Shibuno’s other professional triumphs have come on the LPGA Tour of Japan. Shibuno was the runner-up to countrywoman Yuka Saso in the 2024 U.S. Women's Open at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. Shibuno has athletic genes as her father was a discus thrower and her mother threw the javelin.
